Wind speed alarm

image_blog

Project summary

A central New South Wales coal mine required a system which could provide alerts when wind speed on the site exceeded safe working conditions.

The coal mine experiences regular high winds. The level of airborne sand and dirt during these high wind periods poses a risk to the health and safety of workers. Mine managers required a system that could alert personnel when wind speeds exceeded a certain level so that temporary shut-down procedures could be initiated.

The system provided by Pacific Data Systems Australia uses a cup and vane anemometer to monitor wind speed and direction. An internal processor housed in a nearby environmental enclosure triggers a loud audible alarm, along with a flashing light when the specified wind speed limit is exceeded.
